Connect Google Analytics
Once you save a measurement ID, your store loads the Google tag (gtag.js) on every page, and its visits and shopping events reach your Google Analytics 4 property. This tool is available on every plan.
Add the measurement ID
- In the sidebar, open Pixels.
- On the Google Analytics card, click Open App.
- In Measurement ID, enter your GA4 measurement ID, which starts with
G-. A Google tag ID starting withGT-is also accepted. You find the ID in Google Analytics, in your site's web data stream settings. - Click Save GA Settings.
If you paste the whole Google tag code, Zimam extracts the ID from it. A Google Tag Manager ID, which starts with GTM-, is not accepted here; it goes in Google Tag Manager.
To remove Google Analytics from your store, clear the field and save.
What reaches Google Analytics
- Page views on every storefront page.
view_itemwhen a product page opens.add_to_cartwhen a product is added to the cart.begin_checkoutwhen the customer starts filling in the order form on a product page.purchasewhen the customer submits their order, with the order ID as the transaction ID.
These events carry the products involved and the event value in your store's currency.
Send orders from the server (optional)
A buyer's ad blocker can stop the Google tag, and their order then goes uncounted. With a Measurement Protocol API secret, every order is also sent to GA4 from Zimam's server.
- In GA4, open Admin → Data streams → your web stream → Measurement Protocol API secrets, and create a secret.
- In Zimam, paste its value in Measurement Protocol API secret (optional).
- Click Save GA Settings.
The server sends only the purchase event, with the same order ID the Google tag uses in the browser, so GA4 counts the order once.
The secret works only with a measurement ID that starts with G-, not with one that starts with GT-.
After you save, the secret is not shown again and the field reads Secret saved. Leave blank to keep it. To remove it, click Remove secret, then Save GA Settings.
Notes
- A store holds one measurement ID; saving a new one replaces the old one.
- Google Analytics is independent of Google Tag Manager and of the other pixels. See Pixels and tracking.
- Google Analytics runs on every page, including landing pages.
